Humanistic and Integrative Counsellor
Everyone needs support at some stage in their life. There may be specific issues or life events that challenge us or a more general sense of going in the wrong direction, being stuck, uncertain or unhappy. For whatever reason you are looking at this today, speaking with a counsellor can help.

About me and my practice
In an age of increasing busy-ness, it can feel easier to carry on rather than look for help or someone to talk to. Making the decision to contact a counsellor isn't easy, so a very warm welcome.
I am a integrative therapist which means I have trained in a number of authorised approaches and work openly and flexibly, integrating theory to inform rather than direct my approach. It may be support to talk about what's happening for you right now or to understand how past experiences have affected you or a combination of both. Exploring your concerns in a compassionate space may cast light on habits of thought, behaviour and feeling that have ceased to be useful - once we recognise and understand patterns in which we get caught, we make more of a choice about whether we want to continue them.
Together we can explore what's going on for you, understand more about yourself, your ways of coping and the challenges you are facing. I'm versatile and responsive. It can be enough to talk, hear yourself out loud and be understood by someone else. If it's useful to you, we might sometimes work with creative techniques, like drawing or writing, or we might explore how you experience emotion in your body as well as your mind.
I work non-judgementally, compassionately and collaboratively. The most important aspect of my practice is you, as you are and as you would like to be. I believe everyone possesses potential for change and the strength to grow beyond adversity, in whatever form that takes.
Experience
I am a qualified counsellor and a registered member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) with experience counselling adults and young people.
In addition to my private practice, I am a counsellor with the NHS, based at Sussex Cancer Centre working with people affected by cancer directly and as caregivers or family members.
I have a background of over 25 years in teaching and education which, at its best, is also about connection, relationships, engagement and, most importantly, people.

Additional Information
In our initial session we will explore what brings you to counselling and what you are looking for. This might be something specific or more general, it may also be you don't want to work towards a specific goal and prefer to work in a more open-ended way. I want to be as useful to you as possible, so at regular intervals, we'll take a look at how you feel our sessions are going and whether it is beneficial to you.
